The Courage to Change

I was just talking with Duane Christensen, our guy at Results Radio who writes our radio ads. You can hear our ads on Mix 97.3, so tune in. You can also watch a video form of our radio ads from time to time. A video clip of a recent recording session is embedded below. Give it a click and watch and listen in. That guy lurking behind me is Duane. Ben is at the controls.
Anyway, between gulps of a good Caribou Mocha (half dark chocolate, half milk chocolate) we enjoyed a few good laughs. I reminded him of the old joke – How many psychologists does it take to change a light bulb? Answer: Just one, but the light bulb has to really want to change!
That may not be your kind of humor, but you have to admit that’s funny.
It’s also true. Well, not true in relationship to changing light bulbs, but true in relationship to counseling. A therapist is as good as the client is motivated. It only takes one good therapist to help you change, but you have to want to change. In the large majority of situations meaningful improvement is possible when the client is clearly invested in the effort to change. Depression can be reduced, anxiety can be better managed, marital relationships can be improved, parenting can be easier and more effective, self-awareness can increase … Life can actually get better.
When you are up against the wall of life and don’t know where to turn, consider turning to a good therapist. Therapy is a one-of-a-kind environment where you can explore your hurts and fears and concerns in a confidential and safe setting with someone who will invest in you and in helping you move toward better emotional and relational well-being.
